Rainy Day Beach Getaways

It rarely rains at the beach, but when it does, Me and the Lil Mrs still find incredible things to do close by the Buena Vista Motor Coach Resort.  I remember when the Klamshell Kids were little, we had as much fun on rainy days as we did sunny days!  Here are some great tips from our friends at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism.

Interested in military history? Tour the historic Fort Morgan Museum, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park or the National Naval Aviation Museum. All are fun and inspiring. Take a step back in time and walk the paths of veterans from numerous wars as some educational value is slipped into your vacation itinerary.

Love to shop? You've come to the perfect place to scratch that itch. From outlet stores to unique, one-of-a-kind boutiques, you'll find what you're looking for and then some. A few minutes away in Foley, you'll also find Tanger Outlets packed with your favorite retail shops.

Museums about art, medicine, Native Americans' and sports are all great ways to fill a day when the weather is too damp to go outside. Baldwin County's past is great and varied, and you'll enjoy flipping through the pages of our past at any one of these great venues.

The Coastal Art Center's Clay Studio and Hot Shop is a great spot to spend the day. Make your own piece of art, and take home a custom-made souvenir.

Rainy days and spa days were made for each other. Take advantage of the weather by pampering yourself with a mani/pedi or a hot stone massage. Some spas even offer couples massages.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at a restaurant you might otherwise overlook if you typically hit the beach early. The Ruby Slipper Café is famous for breakfast and brings New Orleans fare to the beach. Enjoy breakfast or brunch favorites like Eggs Benedict, French Toast Bites or Breakfast Tacos (just to name a few) with a generous pour of Ruby Mimosas. is so much more than a coffee house. Grab a coffee and pastry to go or sit down with a breakfast sandwich and a fresh start to your day.

Before you leave home, pack a few board games and card decks, favorite DVDs and microwave popcorn. These come in handy when the rain is falling. Check with your accommodations as some have game rooms and indoor pools that come in handy when it rains as well.

Great advice, right?  The Lil Mrs and I have about five of our favorite board games, UNO cards, and regular cards in our Motor Coach.  The Clubhouse at Buena Vista Motor Coach Resort also is a great place to play some games.  Guests often come to the Clubhouse and enjoy the indoor pool, hot tub, or play board games especially when the weather is little off.

Kenneth Klamshell has long aspired to become a Pulitzer Prize winning author, or possibly a Nobel Prize winner in literature. Although he has never actually won any type of award for his writing, he did once receive honorable mention in a high school Rotary Club essay contest. Both Kenneth Klamshell and the Lil Mrs. can’t wait for the Klamshell Kids to spawn a bed of GrandKlamshells so they may introduce them to the RV Life, Buena Vista Motor Coach Resort, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach!
